In 2011, Clearsprings made their first move into cloud solutions through investment in a Back Up service to protect their critical data.
Subsequently, and due to a SAN failure on-site, the sensible precautions taken by Clearsprings were immediately realised and operations were restored from the Back Up service efficiently and effectively with minimal interruption to operations.
Such was the effectiveness of the experience in what could have been a difficult situation, Randle Slatter, the Group Finance Director, tasked Softwerx with defining and providing a solution that could support the critical live IT operations of the Group from a hosted environment. This was no small task with 500 active users and a sizeable data store.
Softwerx used their extensive knowledge of the Clearsprings IT environment to design a Virtual Private Cloud utilising the Rise Data Center on Demand platform to host 16 virtual servers in a private network to run the Clearsprings IT operations and redefined the licensing needs of the Group to drive cost efficiencies in the process. The new live operations were also integrated into the existing Disaster Recovery solution that had proven its value within months of its original launch.
With the Rise commitment to guaranteeing data sovereignty, high security and resilient operations, and the application and customer environment knowledge established by Softwerx, the solution was provisioned within 10 days of order and has operated efficiently since its launch.
The project was delivered on time, in budget and required no additional communications infrastructure to support the new hosted operation. In addition to the achievement of the core objectives Softwerx navigated the complex licensing arrangements that were necessary to transition from an on-premise to a hosted cloud service ensuring best value for the customer.
