Last year’s security breach means British Airways are now facing a record fine of £183m. Users were directed to a fraudulent site, meaning details such as logins, payment cards, and names and addresses were stolen from 500,000 customers, and 380,000 transactions were affected. Although this breach led to the maximum penalty being 4% of turnover, British Airlines’ penalty only amounted to 1.5% of its 2017 worldwide turnover. They have 28 days to appeal.
