Largest private provider Eurofins hands over undisclosed fee to regain control of systems.
Eurofins, Britain’s largest private forensics provider, has paid a ransom to hackers after its IT systems were brought to a standstill from a cyber-attack. Police have since ceased to work with Eurofins, who normally process more than 70,000 criminal cases each year in the UK, including DNA analysis, firearms analysis, toxicology, and computer forensics.
An emergency response launched by the National Police Chief’s Council to prioritise the flow of forensic submissions so the most serious crimes could continue to be investigated rapidly has seen many cases still being delayed as the allocation of the backlog of casework is proving a struggle.
