Microsoft has introduced Data Assessment within Microsoft Purview’s Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) for AI. This feature provides organisations with valuable insights into the information being shared and offers guidance on how to protect their data. One of the biggest impacts has been identifying what sites exist in SharePoint and who has access. You can access the report from the Purview AI Hub navigation bar. The feature is rolling out automatically and doesn’t need to be configured or turned on.

Data assessments give organisations detailed metric information regarding the number of users that have access to each library, the types of links that have been shared, whether files have been labelled, and if any sensitive information has been detected.

Once you open a site, you can view the guidance on how to protect the data or monitor and delegate an access review.

Administrators can also create custom scans if they only want to target specific users or groups.

A fantastic new addition to the Purview family to help understand the data inside the organisation, who is accessing it, and potential oversharing issues as you adopt Microsoft 365 Copilot. Helping organisations take the first step in securing their data and avoiding overexposure.
